Taster   Michael Jackson
Nose: Smoothly aromatic. Nutty malt. Smoky. Very good, appetising medicinal Islay character.
Palate: Rounded, firm, malty, dry creaminess. Tightly combined flavours.
Finish: Leafy, ferny, malty, sandy, smoky.
Comment: A touch of astringency that seems to be more than Islay iodine.
Taster   Jim Murray
Nose: Understated peat offers no more than a smoky sprinkling on the juicy apple and vanilla.
Palate: Much fuller and fatter in the mouth with an immediate outbreak of spices. Impressively delicate.
Finish: Medium length and perhaps just a little thin. The coffee feature of old is less intense. Holds its age impressively.
Comment: A quite delicious version but not anything like the heavier, more complex 17 Years Old of old.
Taster   Martine Nouet
Nose: Flowery, peaty. Mix of turf, dried herb and heather, lightly smoked. Briny notes emerge. A delicate intricacy of aromas.
Palate: Very smooth and velvety. Malty with an assertive smoky tone soothed by liquorice and coconut. Wood keeps control of peat and smoke. A salty feel.
Finish: Dry, liquoriced, with an oaky edge.
Comment: More integration but a real earthy presence. Water does not make a drastic change.
Taster   Dave Broom
Nose: Richer with scented peat hanging above it all: heather, hint of lavender essential oil, then into cod liver oil, shoreline. Less overtly briny. Well balanced notes of brazil nut, moist tobacco, resin, liqueur chocolate, walnut, dried fruit, Jaffa cake.
Palate: Chewy and soft. Peat has a bigger say in centre, chocolate, mint. A slightly soapy note.
Finish: Perfumed, slightly cloying.
Comment: The peat is fully integrated, beginning to play a supporting role to the oak.
