Taster   Jim Murray
Nose: Just about nudging perfection: salty but balanced infused with delicate fruity notes.
Palate: Rye hits every corner of the mouth: light oils and myriad oaky, complex notes to the roof.
Finish: Slow build up of slightly molassed sweetness and vanilla leaves a lingering, smoky, phenolic finale.
Comment: This (along with Evan Williams 12) is the finest whisky from the house of Heaven Hill.
Taster   Michael Jackson
Nose: Real bourbon vanilla, with a touch of candy-store sweetness.
Palate: Firm, malty, sweet. Some malty fruitiness (apricot?). A suggestion of cilantro.
Finish: Liquorice. Rooty.
Comment: Less structured than might be expected in a 12 Years Old, but a perilously drinkable, appetising bourbon.
Taster   Dave Broom
Nose: Sweet and dense. Apricot jam, stewed fruits, charred oak. A cooperage smell of charring casks and oil. Custard, cedar and a little tobacco leaf.
Palate: Rounded. A very sweet start, liquorice, slight dip in the centre before spiced apple takes over on the finish.
Finish: Sweet. Candy. Oak.
Comment: Another from the big-boned camp.
Taster   Martine Nouet
Nose: Tangy. Nutty. Sweet and sour. Candy floss. Unsweetened apples. A distinct pepperiness. In the back, a cereal and grassy note.
Palate: Sweeter and less creamy than expected. Gently flowing. Develops on drier oaky notes. Liquorice. Nutmeg.
Finish: Dry, liquoriced. Inclining to bitterness.
Comment: Oak (and age) has lessened the creaminess and sweetness of the spirit. Would probably tune in with a cigar, but too oaky for me.
