Ad Gefrin, Northumberland-based Anglo-Saxon museum and distillery, has released a Cognac cask edition of its signature blended whisky Tácnbora.
Named for the Old English word for 'standard bearer', the core expression "leads the way" towards the distillery's own single malt, which is expected to be released in 2026.
Tácnbora is blended from Scottish and Irish whiskies, and this new, limited-edition bottling has received an additional six-month finishing period in ex-Cognac casks. It follows the distillery's previous cask-finished limited release, Tácnbora Peated Islay Cask.
Ben Murphy, director of distilling, commented: “Our journey with casks continues to evolve and excite. The Cognac finish adds a dry fruit character and gentle spice that enhances the signature sweetness of Tácnbora. It’s a wonderful example of how different casks can elevate a whisky while still retaining its heart.”
Ad Gefrin says the new whisky has notes of honey, raisins, sweet tobacco, fudge, apricots, and spice, with florals of clover and custard.
First access to Ad Gefrin Tácnbora Cognac Cask will be given to the distillery's membership communities, Corenkyn and Corengyst, before the expression's general public release on 14 June 2025.
Ad Gefrin Tácnbora Cognac Cask is bottled at a cask strength of 58.6% ABV and will be available via Ad Gefrin's shop and website at RRP £57.
