Total world-wide annual sales of just 75,000 cases of American rye might lead one to conclude that the 'Rye Revival' is nothing more than a mirage. But in Canada, Alberta Distillers continues to distil 100 per cent rye whisky as it has done for more than 50 years. In 2010, it sold 225,000 cases of rye whisky.

Following its 25 Years Old limited edition, Alberta Distillers has released another small batch rye. This one has been aging in its Calgary warehouses since 1981. All 700 cases of the new Alberta Premium 30 Years Old will be allocated to Canada.

The familiar clean, crisp oaky notes of Alberta Premium shine through in the 30-year-old, surrounded by rich toffee with just a touch of maple syrup. Rye spices, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg, underlie piquant white pepper. A round, creamy mouthfeel balances hints of oiliness.

Long a favourite with connoisseurs of Canadian whisky, Alberta Premium raises the bar for 100 per cent rye whisky.
