Ardnamurchan has announced the second edition of its "summer dram", the Midgie, which launched for the first time in 2024.
The 2025 edition of the single malt whisky is a marriage of peated and unpeated whisky, matured in a combination of bourbon and port casks. Arnamurchan says the whisky has "sweet, smoky, savoury, and summer flower notes".
The release follows the inaugural Midgie bottling, which was launched in collaboration with Smidge, a midge repellent brand. Described as "a very summery whisky that is gentle, creamy, and packed with red fruits" by Whisky Magazine taster Alwynne Gwilt, the release was aged in former Madeira, Sauternes, bourbon, and sherry casks.
Speaking about the 2025 edition, Alex Bruce, managing director of Ardnamurchan owner Adelphi Distillery Ltd, commented: “Launching for its second season, the Ardnamurchan Midgie Single Malt is spreading its wings further than ever before. A frenzy of tropical and fresh summer fruits combine with our West Highland maritime profile, adding persistency and bite.”
Although the previous edition was launched exclusively to the UK, the Midgie 2025 will be available in markets around the world from June. Bottled at 48% ABV and priced at RRP £55, it is currently available in the UK.
