Coined limited-edition because of only 1,200 available hand-filled and numbered bottles, the whisky is set for an RRP of £56.95. Stock is available to buy from Badachro’s official shop at the time of writing, with the cask also available at selected stockists.
The producer described the drink as having sweet nose notes with a scent of jams, blackberries and vanilla, while the mouthfeel is described as having sprightly notes of powerful black cherry and glazed red cherries, alongside a hint of bitter chocolate. Its lively finish is described as a long-lasting stewed mix of red fruits and berries.
Sourcing begun at an unnamed Highland distillery, ageing in bourbon barrels and refilled in hogsheads for many years, before moving over to Badachro’s warehouse. Vatted and handpicked into hand-picked ruby port casks, the expression matured in the dunnage warehouse for a full year prior to bottling.
Gordon Quinn, managing director of Badachro Distillery, said: “Our new port cask expression reflects the tranquillity and peacefulness of our corner of the Scottish Highlands. We selected ruby port casks for their distinct dark chocolate and vibrant red fruit influence and, once all four finishing casks were married together, we knew we had created a unique single malt. Bad na h-Achlaise Port Cask is a smooth, unpeated whisky that we believe is the perfect dram to begin a tasting session with. And, if you’re anything like us, continue with too!”
Located in the western Scottish Highlands, Badachro Distillery is host to a handful of crafted whiskies, gins and vodkas. The story of their founders is a romantic one, with Gordon and Vanessa Quinn marrying 12 weeks after meeting at the Badachro Inn. Their dream of creating their own craft distillery was realised after many travels together.
