Speyside distillery Benriach has announced the third annual release of its Malting Season single malt.
First launched in 2021, Malting Season is made of 100 per malted barley from the distillery's floor maltings. It is one of fewer than 10 distilleries in Scotland that still practises floor malting, a traditional technique prized for the superior flavour it is said to lend to malt whiskies.
Benriach's Malting Season Third Edition has been produced with Concerto barley and the spirit has been matured in a combination of virgin oak and first-fill bourbon casks. It will be available in select markets worldwide from August.
Stewart Buchanan, Benriach global brand ambassador, said: “Every year during ‘Maltings Season’ our team hand malt select barley on-site. This historic process pays tribute to our founder, John Duff, and the slow craft of his historic maltings which we continue to this day in the pursuit of exceptional flavour.
“Each new addition of Malting Season uses carefully chosen barley types and individual bottling strengths, making each annual edition one of a kind in its own right.
“Malting Season Third Edition has malt sweetness on the nose with wild bergamot, pear and meadowsweet honey. The palate leads to a burst of clementine, floral honey and gentle barley spice, followed by flavours of apricot, malted almond and traces of wild cherry.”
