Islay malt whisky Big Peat has unveiled its festival bottling for Fèis Ìle 2023: Big Peat The Smokehouse Edition.
The limited edition has been predominantly finished in red wine casks – the first-ever wine cask-finished whisky from Big Peat – and is bottled at 48% ABV. Each bottle is adorned with a red wax seal and comes in a white and gold gift tube illustrated with whisps of smoke.
To mark the launch of the The Smokehouse Edition, the maker of Big Peat, independent bottler Douglas Laing, has partnered with the Peatzeria restaurant in Bowmore for a series of special tastings during this year's Fèis Ìle festival.
At tasting sessions on 26 and 27 May, ticket holders will be able to taste the new festival release, alongside various Big Peat expressions and an Islay single cask single malt, paired with fresh local delicacies, while a more intimate tasting on 28 May will visitors the chance to try rare editions of Bowmore, Caol Ila, and Port Ellen. Big Peat will also be co-hosting a 'Smoky Steak Night' with the Islay Gaelic Centre on 28 May, with all proceeds going to the centre.
