Caol Ila distillery has announced the launch of a limited-edition 14 Year Old single malt, to celebrate the opening of its new visitor experience.

The expression has been matured for 14 years in American oak refill casks and freshly charred American oak casks, with an ABV of 53%.

Former Whisky Magazine editor Charles Maclean tasted the liquid, describing the aromas as mellow in feel, with medicinal notes and faint smokiness, a smooth texture on the palate that’s noticeably smoky, concluded by a long hot finish with lingering spicy notes.

Only 3,000 bottles will be available of the expression at an RRP of £150. Bottles can be bought either at the distillery or via Malts.

Caol Ila is the fourth and final distillery undergo renovation as. Part of Diageo’s investment into the Scotch whisky visitor experience in Scotland, worth £185 million.
