Blending house Compass Box has revealed two new whiskies which will join the brand’s core collection. Nectarosity and Crimson Casks will join popular blends Orchard House and the Peat Monster in the collection.
Inspired by high-end patisserie, in Nectarosity “every ounce of sweetness is treasured”. During the whisky making process, custom toasted and charred new American oak casks from Missouri were used twice — once for grain new make spirit for one year, then again for malt new make spirit for six to eight years. The resulting liquid was blended with whisky aged in first-fill bourbon and Palo Cortado sherry seasoned casks. According to Compass Box, Nectarosity has flavours of vanilla, honey, coconut, and caramel, with a “juicy richness”.
Also joining the core range is Crimson Casks, a blended whisky aged in oloroso sherry casks. Compass Box used casks supplied by Jose y Miguel Martín in Jerez, Spain, to create a “rich, sweet, and spicy” whisky. On the label, Compass Box’s illustrative design shows a ‘forest king’, representing the influence of wood on the whisky’s flavour.
The two new additions will replace the Spice Tree and the Story of the Spaniard in Compass Box’s core collection, previously known as its blended malts range. Two of the brand’s bestsellers, the smoky Peat Monster and fruity Orchard House, will remain in the collection.
Earlier this year, Compass Box announced that John Glaser, who founded the company in 2001, would step down. James Saxon succeeded Glaser as whisky-making director.
Nectarosity (RRP £55) and Crimson Casks (RRP £65) are both bottled at 46% ABV. They will be available from Monday 29 July via Compass Box.
