Tullibardine Distillery was founded in 1947, the first distillery to have opened in Scotland since the turn of the 20th century. It was built on the site of a former brewery and takes its name, which translates as ‘lookout hill’ in Scots Gaelic, from a nearby medieval chapel. Since its purchase by French wine and spirits company Terroir Distillers in 2011, the distillery has gone from strength to strength and has been carefully honing its collection of Highland single malt Scotch whiskies.
The current range includes the bourbon barrel-matured Sovereign, 225 Sauternes Cask Finish, 228 Burgundy Cask Finish, 500 Sherry Cask Finish, and age-statement whiskies at 15 and 18 years old, as well as the limited-edition Murray bottlings, Distillery Editions, and the ultra-rare releases in its Custodians Collection. The newest addition to the Signature Range is the 18 Years Old, which is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks.
In 2023, Tullibardine unveiled new-look packaging for its 15 Years Old and 18 Years Old expressions. The packs are illustrated by Scottish artist Bryan Angus and are designed to illustrate the craft behind Tullibardine's whiskies, depicting scenes from and features of the distillery. They are made from recycled paper and are themselves fully recyclable.
