Matured for 12 years in bourbon and sherry casks, the whisky is then married and filtered at a high temperature for smoothness.
“Aged for 12 years in hand selected oak casks and with notes of dried and tropical fruits, spice, cloves, ginger and a subtle hint of sea salt, Cutty Sark 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky pays tribute to the ship’s many anchor points and its long, proud maritime history,” said Stephen Woodcock, master blender.
Cutty Sark 12 Years Old is packaged in a black bottle with a cork seal that reflects the traditions of the Prohibition era in which the brand was created. The yellow label displays the famous Cutty Sark ship along with a compass, further emphasising its maritime branding.
Sylvia Bernard, international marketing director at La Martiniquaise‐Bardinet, commented, “We are very excited to enrich the Cutty Sark family… This is a first step to build the foundations of an enlarged Cutty range to appeal to whisky enthusiasts and recruit the next generation of Scotch consumers.”
For whisky expert Ian Buxton, meanwhile, “the extra age and body is carried gracefully in a well-balanced blend that shows an extra dimension to Cutty Sark Original… Works well as a stand-alone dram or in mixed serves.”
Bottled at 40% ABV, Cutty Sark 12 Years Old is now available in 70cl and 100cl formats.
