Distell releases four limited-edition expressions

Bunnahabhain, Tobermory and Deanston accompany the release of four limited-edition single malts with brand film by travel writer

14 September 2021

Distell’s three whisky distilleries, Bunnahabhain, Tobermory and Deanston, have released a selection of limited editions to showcase the company’s award-winning single malt whisky portfolio.

From Islay’s most remote distillery, Bunnahabhain, comes the 2011 Aonadh (meaning ‘Union’ in Scots Gaelic). This combines sherry matured and port finished whisky (56.2% ABV), resulting in what is described as a rich, creamy and subtly spicy dram.

The Isle of Mull’s Tobermory Distillery launches Tobermory 2004 Oloroso Cask Matured (55.9% ABV), described as sweet and ginger-spiced, and the peated Ledaig 1999 Pedro Ximenez Cask Matured (55.6% ABV), described as subtly smoky, with deep notes of dark fruits.

Meanwhile, Deanston will release the 2008 Oloroso Cask Matured (52.7%), which the distillery notes combines fruity and spicy notes with “the citrus, floral waxiness, unique to Deanston Distillery.”

Distell sent acclaimed travel writer Robin McKelvie to Islay, Mull and Perthshire to visit and film in the distilleries. The brand film’s script is voiced by 12 members of distillery staff. Julieann Fernandez, master blender at Distell, said: “Robin has created some beautiful prose that truly captures the spirit of each of the three distilleries, their link to the local communities and their surrounding landscapes...These film clips pay tribute to these teams and our distillery homelands.“

All four limited editions can be purchased via the respective distilleries’ websites. The recommended retail prices per bottle are:
Bunnahabhain 2011 Aonadh: £120
Deanston 2008 Oloroso Cask Matured: £80
Tobermory 2004 Oloroso Cask Matured: £130
Ledaig 1999 Pedro Ximenez Cask Matured: £250
