This month’s drams under the hammer features over 450 bottles from Campbeltown distillery Springbank, and a collection of rare single cask releases from Benriach dating back to the 1960s and 1970s.
Coming up…
The Macallan
A darling of collectable whisky, Whisky Auctioneer has over 500 bottles from the Speyside distillery in their January auction. Highlights include the Macallan 60 Year Old The Red Collection, seen on the site for the first time since 2020, and the Macallan 16 Year Old early 1980s / I.H. Baker appears on the platform for the very first time.
Springbank
Springbank makes up the focus of Whisky Auctioneer’s January auction, with over 450 bottles from the Campbeltown distillery available. Italian independent bottlers and importers have contributed many of the finest bottles in the selection, including stand-outs from Samaroli and Moon Import such as the Springbank 1965 Moon Import #363 / The Birds I and Samaroli’s “Glen Cawdor” releases, generally believed to come from Springbank. Official bottlings will also delight aficionados of the distillery, with the Local Barley bottlings, including the sought-after 1966 vintages, so-called Parchment Bottlings and White Labels all featuring extensively. There is rarely the chance to explore such a breath of releases from the ever-popular distillery.
Benriach Single Cask Bottlings
Sometimes a slightly overlooked Speysider, Benriach has had a roller coaster journey since it’s founding in the late 1890s. There have been many changes of ownership and long periods of closure, however Whisky Auctioneer’s January auction offers the chance to explore rare single cask releases from the 1960s and 1970s, demonstrating exactly what makes Benriach intriguing to its supporters. The 50 lots also show a breadth of styles, from more traditional Sherry Cask finishes to Moscatel Cask and Virgin Oak.
