On April 3rd, The Old Jameson Distillery launched their latest offering to the visitors to Dublin- the Barrelman's Feast. Aimed at an audience of thirty-something whiskey drinkers and thrill seekers, it promises to turn the traditional 'hooley' night on its head.

Kicking off with a favourite cocktail of trendy bartenders, Jameson and Ginger Ale the Old Jameson Distillery have even resurrected one of their barrelmen to host the evening and offer a unique insight into the Jameson whiskey story.

As the story of Jameson whiskey unfolds throughout the evening, visitors will enjoy a delicious four course menu, offering a choice of starter, a choice of main course followed by a delicious Jameson Crème Brulée dessert served on original whiskey barrel boards.

The Old Jameson Distillery has deconstructed what a 'traditional Irish' night is, to reflect a changing society and changing tastes. Handpicked musicians 'Sine Metu' will offer a unique take on Irish musicians from Thin Lizzy, to U2 and Paul Brady.

"What it means to be Irish is constantly changing," said John Callely, CEO at the Old Jameson Distillery. "As a must see venue for tourists and locals alike, the Old Jameson Distillery wanted to reflect what's really going on in Irish society, in terms of drinks, the food we're eating and the music we're listening to. It's the most authentic evening you can find in Dublin," he continued.

The event will run weekly over the summer and coming in at €60, it's a good value evening of drinks, food and entertainment. The Barrelman's Feast will run every Thursday and Saturday from May to October at the Old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield's Bow Street, from 7.30pm to 11pm.

The Barrelman's Feast package includes:

• Check in and cloakroom

• Signature Jameson cocktail

• 4 course meal

• Live music show

• Complimentary Jameson gift

Tickets can bought online for a discounted rate of €49.50 at: https://bookings.jamesonwhiskey.com

About The Old Jameson Distillery

The Distillery was established in 1780 when John Jameson established the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin. Jameson is now distilled in Cork, although bottling still takes place in Dublin. With annual sales of over 31 million bottles, Jameson is by far the best selling Irish whiskey in the world.

Although no longer a working distillery, the Old Jameson Distillery has been restored and the recreated distillery scenes take visitors through the seven stages of whiskey making.

The unique setting, not to mention history, of the Old Jameson Distillery makes it a very special place to unwind with family or friends over a drink or a meal. Visitors can choose from JJ's Bar, serving John Jameson's triple distilled, twice as smooth Irish Whiskey, as well as Jameson cocktails and hot drinks.

A site alongside the existing distillery in Midleton, Co. Cork was chosen as the location for the new distillery, as there was no room for expansion in Dublin. Both the Old Jameson Distillery and the Old Midelton Distillery currently operate as visitor centres attracting over 330,000 visitors annually. Pernod Ricard bought the company in June 1988 with the support of the management and employees.

The ONE and only

Only a few months after its UK launch last Autumn 2013, The ONE blend has already clinched distribution deals in The Netherlands, France and Belgium, and will launch in the UAE in May.

The Lakes Distillery managing director, Paul Currie, said on his return from an Eastern Europe trade mission this month: "To create The ONE, we searched far and wide to bring together a range of very special whiskies from the British Isles. These have been blended with great care and passion to create a perfectly balanced whisky and, as we hoped, exports have taken off in a big way already.

"As well as the distribution deals already secured, we are in talks with partners in Spain and Poland, and have other territories in Europe and Asia in our sights.

"We all know the global success story of Scotch, and now England is seeing a real whisky boom with several new distilleries planned to open this year. Our £5m development at Bassenthwaite Lake in Cumbria will be the biggest new distillery in England and the first official one in the Lakes. Building work is well underway and we plan to start production of whisky, gin and vodka in the summer and open our bistro, tours and shop to the public by the December 2014."

The stills will arrive in June and they will create a new quality malt from scratch.

A select number of whisky enthusiasts around the world are invited to become part of the early stages of The Lakes Distillery story. The company has launched a Connoisseurs' Club, where just 60 members can go to the distillery to make their own whisky, fill their own rare sherry cask, and then come to annual tasting ceremonies when they can taste their maturing whisky.

In addition, the Lakes Distillery will set aside the first 100 casks of malt whisky produced exclusively for members of its Founders' Club. Each year for ten years, members will then receive one 70cl bottle and two tasting bottles, making up a collectable set of the distillery's first ever production. These casks will not be available to the general public and the cost will be £595.

Spirit of Speyside Festival

On May 1st, Glen Grant distillery hosted guests from across the globe to celebrate the opening of the 2014 Spirit of Speyside whisky festival. The annual 'Touch of Tartan' dinner was attended by both members of the industry and whisky enthusiasts, who were treated to a tour of the distillery's grounds and recently opened bottling hall.

The evening not only represented the start of the festival's 15th year, but also the beginning of Homecoming 2014's Whisky Month - a celebration of Scotland's national drink.

The evening was hosted by festival chairman James Campbell and Charlie Maclean, writer & consultant to the whisky industry. The festival, which comprised of over 370 events across five days, included not only tastings & distillery tours but also - new for 2014 - it's very own music festival: Spirit of Speyside Sessions. This latest addition represents the next step for the festival, which has seen spectacular growth during the past 15 years and remains a unique opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts in the heart of whisky country. Charlie MacLean commented:

"Apart from the huge number of events that pack the five days - which make it seem more like five weeks - the best thing about the festival is meeting old friends and making new ones, sharing our passion for whisky, comparing thoughts on individual malts… One is left with a warm glow of companionship."
