Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has revealed Rarest Reserve, a new collection through which it will release expressions from some of its most exclusive casks.
The first releases under the collection are both from the Macallan, a 52 Years Old and 33 Years Old. The release was timed to align with the Macallan’s 200th anniversary, which it celebrates in 2024.
Both whiskies are presented in distinctive gold bar outer packaging, in 100ml bottles. Just 500 bottles of each whisky have been released.
The 52 Years Old single malt was distilled in 1969 and laid to mature in an American oak ex-bourbon cask. It was then transferred to first fill ex-oloroso sherry casks to finish its ageing period.
Of the 33 Years Old, Duncan Taylor says it shows notes of “over-ripe tropical fruits, indulgent dark chocolate and a rich spiciness. On the palate is a creamy toffee with a finish that is elegant and rich...”
CEO Shawn Smith commented: “We continue to launch whiskies from our vaults that go as far back as the 1960s. We are very proud of the unique packaging that was created for these rare drams and know that fans of the Macallan may want the opportunity to taste these incredible malts or treasure them and keep as collector pieces.”
Duncan Taylor’s Rarest Reserve bottling of the Macallan 52 Years Old made its debut in early July 2024 at an event celebrating 900 years of Edinburgh. It was presented to King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the event at Edinburgh Castle.
Rarest Reserve The Macallan 52 Years Old is priced at £7,850. Rarest Reserve The Macallan 33 Years Old is priced at £630. Both are available via the Spirits Embassy and BlockBar.
