Taking place in the newly launched ‘The Malting Floor’ in West London’s The Distillery, guests will embark on a guided tasting and sip and savour their way through a diverse selection of whiskies from around the world.
The Whiskey Thing is designed for everyone – from the whisky connoisseur to the whiskey curious – and serves up a fresh, new take on the category compared to the more traditional whisky experiences.
During the three hour experience, The Distillery’s whisky experts will guide guests on a multi-sensory journey through the characteristics, aromas and flavours that are found in whisky in an approachable, informal manner, which highlights the breadth and diversity of the category and explains why whisky tastes like whisky.
Once guests have explored the fascinating world of whisky, they will create their own ‘One of One’ full-sized bottle of blended whisky, choosing from a curated range of carefully selected malts from around the world, resulting in a truly unique bottling to take home and enjoy. Each guest’s individual recipe will be kept on file so they can order their unique blend again and again.
The Whiskey Thing, Jake F. Burger, says: “It’s an incredibly exciting time in the world of the whisky. The category has boomed in recent years and countries that previously didn’t have a history of whisky production have joined the party.
“These New World whiskies have resulted in an influx of experimental expressions, and exciting new styles, and have also opened up the category to a new generation of drinkers. We aim to explore some of these while also celebrating the more traditional whisky producing countries.
“With The Whisky Thing, we wanted to go against the grain of what people expect from a traditional whisky tasting and embrace the spirit of change within the category. We hope that after attending The Whiskey Thing, guests will have an entirely new perspective of whisky and will be opened up to new and exciting ways to enjoy this centuries-old spirit. I will not be wearing tartan and there are no bagpipes involved, this will not be your Grandad’s whisky experience!”
