The Glen Grant has announced a new addition to its core collection of single malts.
The Glen Grant 21 Years Old becomes the oldest expression in the Speyside distillery's permanent collection, alongside its 10, 12, 15 and 18 Years Old single malts.
Said to take inspiration from tropical plants that James Grant (aka The Major) discovered on his travels, the 21 Years Old comprises spirits matured in ex-bourbon barrels and oloroso sherry butts and hogsheads that are married in small batches on site at the Rothes distillery. It is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration and with natural colour. Tasting notes from Glen Grant say the whisky has a "tropical explosion of flavour", alongside aromas of ripe peach, toffee and raisin.
Unveiling the new expression, Glen Grant's owner Campari Group said the 21 Years Old would "set the tone" for a variety of new releases from the brand that are due to be unveiled from 2023 onwards.
Glen Grant master distiller Dennis Malcolm said: "This 21-year-old whisky marks a highly significant moment in time for The Glen Grant and one which will pave the way for a new era. This is an exciting development and one which I know will take us forward into the future with pride and passion.
"Each one of our whiskies tells its own story and reveals its very own flavour journey defined by a captivating character, with unfolding layers and surprising complexity."
The Glen Grant 21 Years Old will be available from March 2023 at a recommended price of of £275 from Milroy's and The Whisky Exchange.
