The Glen Grant has launched the Splendours Collection, a new series of "the distillery's most precious casks". The collection will debut with a 65 Years Old single malt whisky.
Each release in the collection is set to pay homage to a different element from within the distillery's Garden of Splendours. The 65-year-old whisky is inspired by the Himalayan blue poppy, a rare flowed which grows in the distillery's garden.
The whisky has matured in a single French oak cask for its 65-year aging period. The distillery says it has notes of treacle, blackberries, sandalwood, cherries, fruit cake, and dates, with citrus, spice, and smoke at the finish.
Greig Stables, master distiller at the Glen Grant, remarked: “The true scarcity of this spirit at 65 Years Old is testament to the unwavering approach to whisky making and visionary innovation which has always defined the Glen Grant.
“Although distilled back in 1958, the methods remain almost entirely the same today reflecting the legacy of our forefathers. This whisky captures a lifetime of flavour and character from its journey in a single French oak butt. This time has created a magnificent single malt, which despite its lengthy union in oak, retains the distinct and singular character of the Glen Grant.”
To reflect the Himalayan poppy that inspires the new release, the Glen Grant 65 Years Old has a decanter designed by John Galvin and Glasstorm as a 'Mobius strip seed pod': a continuous loop which the Glen Grant says reflects nature's timelessness. Of the 151 decanters made, seven will be available in the UK from June.
The Glen Grant 65 Years Old will be available from selected retailers in the UK from June 2025, priced at an RRP of £39,000 per decanter.
