Speyside distillery Glen Moray has unveiled Phoenix Rising, a new virgin oak-finished single malt.
In homage to the phoenix, a mythical bird that burns as it dies and can also be reborn from its ashes, the single malt whisky is finished in new charred oak casks – a cask type that is rarely used at the Speyside distillery.
The expression comes with a newly designed bottle label and gift box that contrast fiery red hues and gold foil, to represent the phoenix, with Glen Moray's trademark dark blue.
It is the latest release from Glen Moray that explores an 'unusual' kind of cask maturation, following the launch earlier this year of Twisted Vine, a single malt fully matured in ex-Cognac casks.
Glen Moray's global brand ambassador Iain Allan said: “Glen Moray Phoenix Rising is our sweet and spicy tribute to the phoenix. Rather like that mythical bird, our new charred oak casks are scorched by fire. And just as the phoenix is reborn from its ashes, these casks bring a whole new spectrum of flavour to life. With inviting notes of caramel, ginger, and milk chocolate, this single malt makes the perfect gift for any whisky fan.”
Glen Moray Phoenix Rising is available at the Glen Moray Distillery and in global markets including France, the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea.
