The 8-year-old expression has been matured in heavily peated, first-fill bourbon barrels before a year-long finish in the Pedro Ximénez hogsheads.
The producer has described the dram as having notes of soft peat smoke, vanilla and fresh apples on the nose, hints of runny treacle and spicy white pepper on the mouth, concluded by a mellow sea-influenced and floral honey finish. The colour is described as rich amber and comes in with an ABV of 56.5%.
The RRP for the product is coming in at £55 and is available to buy from now, across specialist retailers worldwide and the Glen Scotia UK online store.
Ian McAllister, distillery manager and master distiller said the following on the whisky: “Our Festival Release 2022 is very special as it heralds the return of the much-loved Malts Festival and the opportunity for us to showcase our work in person once more to whisky fans from around the world. The limited-edition release is an intriguing mix of characteristics, picking up our signature maritime style and the rich sticky sweetness from the Pedro Ximénez hogsheads. It is a liquid that has been crafted by our talented team and is a fantastic dram to enjoy while soaking up Campbeltown and all it has to offer.”
The festival itself, which runs from 24th-26th May, is an important time for those in the Campbeltown area. It celebrates the whisky production of the area as well as showcasing the remaining distilleries as well as providing them a platform. An expression in honour of the festival was also released last year.
