Glenfiddich's Scotland brand ambassador Mark Thomson and a group of hospitality industry colleagues have raised more than £3,000 for charity on a 90-kilometre trek through the Scottish countryside.
Thomson, who was named Scotch Brand Ambassador of the Year in the 2023 Icons of Whisky competition, led the 12-strong team of runners on the route from Braemar to Dufftown, which was inspired by a journey taken by William Grant in 1885 before he built the Glenfiddich Distillery. The route, covered over two days, saw the team set out from Braemar and cross two munros before reaching the finish line at Glenfiddich.
The group raised a total of £3,135 for event partner Protect Our Winters, an environmental charity which supports people who are passionate about the outdoors to become effective climate advocates. Every donation has been match-funded by William Grant & Sons and Le Deli Robuchon London.
Speaking before the race in July, Thomson said: “This adventure will create a lasting impression on the entrants, bringing together all the vales Glenfiddich and Protect Our Winters share, as well as promoting health and wellbeing within the industry. The love of the outdoors, challenge of the landscape and the luxury destination of the distillery creates a memorable occasion for all."
Thomson documented the journey on his Instagram account @singlemaltmark.
