Glenmorangie has revealed Signet Reserve, an “even rarer” edition of its expression Glenmorangie Signet.
Glenmorangie Signet was first released in 2008 after director of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden, inspired by the flavour of his favourite coffee, sought to explore the richer side of Glenmorangie’s typically light, fruity flavour profile. New release Signet Reserve takes that richness further for a “more indulgent” take on the Highland whisky.
Signet’s spirit is distilled just once a year at Glenmorangie. Production of other spirit is paused in the distillery to allow focus on the chocolate malt used for Signet.
The “espresso-like” spirit is then aged in bourbon, sherry, and new oak casks, and married with whisky from some of Glenmorangie’s oldest stocks. For Signet Reserve, fully matured Signet whisky is further aged in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
Lumsden said: “Many years ago, we challenged ourselves to explore the dark side of Glenmorangie’s flavour profile. Inspired by the beguiling flavours of freshly brewed coffee, our award-winning Signet was born. Now, by aging Glenmorangie Signet further in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, we are taking that whisky’s hallmark style even deeper into deliciousness.
“With its notes of chocolate truffles, toffee, fudge, and tiramisu Glenmorangie Signet Reserve offers layers of luxurious decadence, which will be enjoyed by whisky lovers old and new.”
Glenmorangie Signet Reserve (46% ABV) will be released in limited quantities each year. It will be available from the end of July via Glenmorangie and from selected outlets at RRP £345.
