Godawan 100 is a limited-edition expression that pays homage to the great Indian bustard, a species of bird native to Rajasthan whose conservation the whisky brand supports through community partnerships.
The whisky has been distilled from Indian six-row malted barley and matured in American ex-bourbon and European oak casks. As its name alludes to, the single malt is being released in a batch of just 100 bottles, each with a bespoke label featuring an image of the great Indian bustard. The bottles are presented in cases crafted from bourbon casks that were used in the liquid's maturation.
Godawan marked the launch of its Godawan 100 expression with a one-day immersive event, which offered 30 guests – including Maharawal Chaitanya Raj Singh, the 44th King of Jaisalmer and a passionate conservationist – the chance to get closer to the world of Godawan whisky. It also partnered with photographer Amit Pasricha, whose platform 'India Lost & Found' celebrates forgotten Indian monuments, to create bespoke prints for the occasion.
Godawan single malt whisky was launched by Diageo India in 2021 and is produced at the company's Alwar distillery in Rajasthan.
Shweta Jain, Diageo India's chief business development officer of luxury, reserve and craft for India and South Asia, said, "In a world where discerning luxury consumers seek more than just premium products, Diageo India offers a holistic experience that embraces sustainability and responsible consumption. At the heart of it lies a deep appreciation for our rich heritage and a steadfast commitment to preserving it for future generations. In this spirit, we proudly present Godawan 100 that embodies our values of mindful consumption and social consciousness.”
Vikram Damodaran, chief innovation officer at Diageo India, said: "Godawan 100 is a remarkable artisanal single malt with the raison d’etre of conservation of an endangered species. Each bottle is unique with a distinctive image of the bird, and the cases have been created from old, discarded casks. The liquid captures the exceptional essence of Rajasthan. We are proud to partner local communities to conserve Godawan and invite our consumers to join us in this journey of responsible consumption and mindful luxury.”
