The release is made with a higher proportion of Orkney peated malt and has been matured predominantly in first-fill sherry seasoned American and European oak casks and a small quantity of refill casks. No water has been added after maturation.
Bottled at 64.1%, the producer has described the drink as having a natural deep golden appearance with notes of lightly charred oak, honey-glazed lemons, crush aniseed, ripe mango and cloudy heather honey on the palate.
Highland Park master whisky maker Gordon Motion explained: “With Cask Strength, you are at a great place to start exploring the taste that best suits your palate by adding water, ice or your preferred serve. It’s your whisky and should be enjoyed your way. For me, a Cask Strength whisky really celebrates that balance between old and new and I look forward to seeing how consumers enjoy the new whisky.”
Previous releases in the Highland Park Cask Strength series include Release No. 1, matured predominantly in sherry seasoned American oak casks, and Release No. 2, matured in sherry seasoned European and American oak casks – similar to the newest addition – as well a small quantity of ex-bourbon casks.
Release No. 3 will be available worldwide at an RRP of £65, from today across specialist whisky retailers, including The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt and The Whisky Shop as well as the Highland Park online shop, distillery and Albert Street store in Orkney.
