InchDairnie Distillery in Fife, Scotland, has announced a major investment in its infrastructure, through which it expects to double its whisky production.

The developments will enable the distillery to double output from two to four million litres of alcohol per year. It will also allow necessary preparations for the distillery to switch from natural gas to green hydrogen to power its distillations.

Developments will include two additional stills, land with space for fourteen additional warehouses, and three new warehouses. Designed by Frilli, the stills will have energy recovery systems and double condensers to promote energy efficiency.

The announcement comes as InchDairnie prepares to mark its 10th anniversary since it began distilling in 2015. In 2023, the distillery released its RyeLaw whisky, made using Scottish-grown rye and officially categorised as a single grain Scotch whisky.

Scott Sneddon, managing director, said: “Whisky is a long-term business, and the developments we are announcing today are all part of the meticulous planning and long-term viewpoint that can be seen throughout our business decision-making since our beginning in 2015. As we prepare to mark 10 years, the doubling of capacity is a bold move, but one that ensures we are set to meet the increased growth in demand for our products that we predict will come as more and more discover our innovative whiskies and full flavours.”

Ian Palmer, founder and chairman, added: “The installation of the new infrastructure at the distillery is testament to the quality of spirit that we are producing here in Fife, and have done for a decade. Demand from industry partners for our new-make liquid has been high, and the response we have had to our first release, RyeLaw, unveiled last year has been both satisfying and humbling.”
