The Isle of Arran has revealed the third whisky in its four-part Signature Series collection. The limited-edition series is made up of single malts hand-selected, blended, and signed by Stewart Bowman, Lochranza distillery manager.
Launched in 2023, the first release in the series was Remnant Renegade, which married spirit from a selection of remnant casks, including ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks. The second edition was Barrel Bonfire, which showcased a heavily peated side of Arran's spirit, matured in a bourbon cask.
Joining its predecessors in the Signature lineup is Duero Discovery. Bottled at 12 Years Old, the unpeated spirit was initially matured in first- and second-fill bourbon casks for six years. It was then transferred to red wine casks, which had previously been used to mature wine in a region of northern Spain along the Duero river, for a further six years of maturation.
Bowman commented: “As a team we’re incredibly proud of this series and what it represents. Each edition has its own unique character and tells a story of how we do things in Lochranza — you’re seeing straight from the source what is important to us.
“We’d really like to invite people to get closer to the whisky and question the detail and heart of what goes into their dram. We want people to feel that they can open, share, drink and enjoy their whisky and feel a part of the place and people who were instrumental in making it, rather than focussing on ‘investment’ for financial gain or ‘collection’ of attractive packaging.”
Isle of Arran says the whisky has notes of caramelised fruit, hazelnuts, dark red berries, vanilla, and grapefruit rind, with ginger, sweet spice, and aniseed.
The distillery recently announced celebrations for its 30th anniversary, which will fall at the end of June 2025.
