An online live-streamed whisky event has been announced by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi, and online retailer Amazon. All whisky lovers have been invited to participate in the online event, which will take place on Thursday 24th October at 7pm GMT, and those who wish to 'taste along' with the hosts may purchase a special pack of three 200ml samples.
The whiskies, Aberfeldy 12 Years Old, Aultmore 12 Years Old and Craigellachie 13 Years Old, are all bottled at 46% ABV and are being offered in a special tasting pack, The Single Malt Discovery Collection, for £40. Amazon Prime members in some cities can expect delivery in as little as two hours.
The interactive live-streamed tasting, filmed in real time at Aberfeldy Distillery in Highland Perthshire, will be hosted by the malt master of John Dewar & Sons, Stephanie Macleod; award-winning drinks commentator Alice Lascelles; and Aberfeldy's brand home ambassador Matthew Cordiner.
In addition to a guided tasting, the trio will also participate in an audience Q&A session where viewers will be able to submit questions live and direct to the hosts — another first for an Amazon livestream event.
The global brand director for Bacardi's malts portfolio, Ian Taylor, commented: “The live tasting is a global first for Amazon and we're very proud to be a part of it. Consumers are increasingly looking to the online environment for new, exciting whiskies and we feel Amazon is the perfect digital platform to bring together new and experienced whisky drinkers alike, to learn more about our amazing single malts.”
Stephanie, who is responsible for overseeing all of the malts in the company's portfolio, from the barley to the bottle, spoke with pride of the three whiskies participants will be enjoying on the evening: “This a collection of three whiskies that I am particularly proud of, and I can't wait to share them with everyone on the live tasting."
