Named after Islay's largest freshwater loch, which the distillery overlooks, the Loch Gorm limited editions are always fully matured in oloroso sherry casks. For the 2023 release, Kilchoman founder Anthony Willis and production manager Robin Bignal selected a total of 22 casks which were all distilled between 2013 and 2015 and vatted them together.
The distillery says that the combination of casks has created "a beautiful balance of rich fruity character with layers of classic Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus sweetness".
Willis said: "Rather than dominating, Loch Gorm’s oloroso maturation works in harmony with the natural character of Kilchoman. The 2023 release has a fantastic spectrum of flavour, from rich spices and macerated peaches to fresh citrus, ginger, orange zest and waves of salty peat smoke."
Kilchoman, currently the island of Islay's only farm distillery, exclusively uses barley grown on its own estate with malting, distilling, maturation and bottling all taking place on site.
Bottled at 46% ABV, the Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023 limited edition will be available from March.
