St Andrews' Kingsbarns Distillery has announced its oldest age-statement whisky yet. Bottled at 10 Years Old, the new single malt whisky is a "major milestone" for the distillery, which opened in 2014.

The distillery says it has spent it first decade "crafting a signature style", leading up to the 10-year-old release. Previous releases from Kingsbarns include the non-age-statement Doocot, Falkland, and Coaltown whiskies, and an 8-year-old whisky which at the time of release was the distillery's oldest single malt.

William Wemyss, director of Kingsbarns Distillery, commented: "Ten years ago, Kingsbarns was an ambitious vision. To now unveil our first 10-year-old single malt is not just a personal milestone, but a moment of celebration for everyone who has supported us on this journey.

"Our aim from the beginning was to create a light, elegant Lowland-style whisky that spoke to its East Coast origins. This expression is proof that patience and precision has paid off. It’s a dram we’re immensely proud to share."

The distillery is part of the Wemyss Family Spirits portfolio, which was founded as Wemyss Malts in 2005 by siblings William and Isabella Wemyss. Last year, Wemyss Family Spirits announced its pledge to reach net zero carbon emissions

Isabella Wemyss, blender, said: "We’ve always had a clear idea of the whisky we wanted to make — light, elegant and true to its Lowland roots — and we’ve never strayed from that.

"This release brings it all together. Matured predominantly in ex-bourbon barrels with a touch of STR wine casks, it’s soft and balanced with summer fruits and vanilla, offering a greater depth, richness and complexity that only time can deliver."

In recent months, Kingsbarns has been undergoing expansion, including through the installation of a new £150,000 heat exchange system. Through the system, Kingsbarns expects to save £20,000 per year in energy costs and to reduce consumption of kerosene at the distillery by 14 per cent annually. Also this year, Wemyss Family Spirits announced the opening of its own bonded warehouse.

William said: "It’s been an incredible first ten years, but we’re only just getting started. With our new warehouses up and running, we’re excited to keep flying the flag for Lowland whisky, and to keep exploring new flavours and expressions that show just how special our spirit can be."

Isabella added: "For us, this is just the beginning. I’m hugely proud of what our team has achieved and excited for where the next ten years will take us."

Kingsbarns 10 Years Old (46% ABV, RRP £65) will be available online and via select specialist retailers from September 2025.
