Kingsbarns Distillery is due to release its Distillery Reserve 2024, which with an age statement of 8 Years Old is the Lowland distillery’s oldest expression to date.
Peter Holroyd, distillery manager, said: “Each autumn, we all eagerly await the release of our annual Distillery Reserve bottling and this year I believe we have something rather special.”
The new single malt whisky has been fully matured in ex-solera oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 58.2% ABV. The distillery says the sherry maturation has given the whisky “spiced fruity flavours”, including cinnamon, clove, peach, and apricot.
Isabella Wemyss, blender, explained: “This level of complexity is achieved by carefully selecting the best cask to showcase the spirit. We have used the finest ex-solera oloroso sherry casks, creating our richest and most elegant expression to date”
Holroyd added: “We’ve used locally grown barley, mineral rich water sourced directly from below the distillery and when you combine this with the high-quality oloroso casks that the liquid has been matured in, you get a perfectly balanced dram which is a joy to drink.
“The whisky has a gorgeous colour and flavour profile, it’s the perfect balance between distillery character and cask influence and we’re incredibly excited to be releasing this very soon.”
Kingsbarns was established in 2014. It produces non-chill filtered whisky with its natural colour. Earlier this year the distillery's parent company, Wemyss Family Spirits, made a pledge to reach net zero ahead of industry targets.
The Kingsbarns Distillery Reserve 2024 will be available online or from the distillery at RRP £75 from 16 October 2024.
