Spirits retailer La Maison du Whisky is celebrating the 40th anniversary of whisky in France with the launch of 'French Whisky Month'.
As part of the celebrations, La Maison du Whisky's Golden Promise bar, located in Paris' second arrondissement, will be expanded with a pop-up bar dedicated entirely to French whisky producers which will run from 5–30 September.
With more than 200 expressions on offer, the pop-up bar aims to showcase the diversity in whisky across France's regions, with preview tastings of special bottlings and a cocktail menu put together by the Golden Promise's bartending team featuring whiskies from Amorik, Vilanova, and La Maison du Whisky's own Version Française collection.
During the event, French whisky will make its debut in the Golden Promise's Collector's Lounge, reserved for rare bottles (including some no longer available to purchase). La Maison du Whisky's Odéon boutique in Paris will also be focusing on homegrown whiskies during French Whisky Month, with a wide offering of bottles and a programme of activities, masterclasses, and tastings.
To coincide with French Whisky Month in September, La Maison du Whisky is also promoting the publication of a new historical book on French whisky by spirits expert Matthieu Acar.
Une Brève mais Intense Histoire de Whisky Français (A Brief but Intense History of French Whisky) covers the whisky landscape in France from experiments and early bottlings in the 1980s to the present day. The book is published by Flammarion and will be released on 27 September.
Founded in 1961 by Georges Bénitah and now overseen by his son Thierry, La Maison du Whisky is France's foremost whisky and spirits retailer. It has three boutiques and a tasting and training space in Paris (as well as the Golden Promise) and shops in Réunion and Singapore.
