For the release this year, the team has selected 26 casks of Islay single malt with the influence of Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, said to bring a rich fruity sweetness.
The bottling will officially launch as part of Fèis Ìle 2023, which begins with a ‘Journey of Taste’ whisky dinner on 30 May at the Machrie Luxury Hotel and Golf Links.
The producer has described the expression as complex, with aromas of maritime smoke, burn toffee and stewed berries. It marks the latest in a range aimed at taking whisky drinkers on a taste journey across Islay.
Douglas Crawford, managing director at Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, said: ‘Launching Mac-Talla PX as a limited edition Fèis Ìle bottling on Islay is a very special event for Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. Our company’s close ties with Islay continue and we are proud to represent the high-quality output of Islay’s distilleries with our Mac-Talla range.’
Bottled at 54.6% ABV, the release will be available at an RRP of £72.
Niel Hendriksz, sales director at Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, added: ‘We are thrilled with the results of PX maturation on this smoky Islay Single Malt. The sweetness of the PX settles the peat, adding structure and depth, resulting in a deliciously complex balance between fruity, jammy notes and smoke.’
Tickets for the ‘Journey of Taste’ whisky dinner are now sold out, however there are still tickets available for the Mac-Talla festival day at the Machrie on 1 June, which will feature live music, games and a BBQ as well as the new expression.
