The Macallan has revealed a new look for three of its single malt Scotch whisky collections. The Double Cask, Sherry Oak, and Colour collections have been updated in collaboration with designer David Carson.
All three whisky collections explore the potential of the brand's signature sherry-seasoned oak maturation style: the Double Cask Collection, for example, uses sherry-seasoned European and American oak, while the Sherry Oak Collection uses sherry-seasoned European oak casks for "depth and intricacy".
The Colour Collection, which launched in 2023, also with visual direction by Carson, uses sherry-seasoned American oak casks, resulting in a "natural spectrum of golden hues". The Macallan says it is this collection which "paved the way" for the 2025 redesign.
The collections' new look takes inspiration from various elements in the Macallan's history and approach. The bottle design is inspired by the distillery's undulating green roof, while the triangular shoulder label represents Spain's Sherry Triangle — the region from which the brand sources its casks. A new label design also adds in a new cask type symbol, to highlight the flavour contribution from American and European oak.
Jaume Ferras, creative director at the Macallan, commented: “The Macallan has never stood still and never will. This distinctive new identity offers a multitude of visual cues to tell our story, from the sherry seasoning to the American and European oak casks which contribute to the complex taste and flavour profiles in every bottle of the Macallan.”
David Carson added: “Like whisky, design is all about balance — with the Macallan, I wanted to create a visual identity that respects its rich history and encapsulates its forward-thinking spirit. Each detail, from the label designs to the bottle’s form, is a tribute to the mastery behind every dram.”
