The Cask Strength Volume 1, which is rolling out across the United States and Canada, features the same blend of bourbon and rye whiskeys as the original Blackened expression, married and finished in brandy casks. The Cask Strength is bottled non-chill filtered and will be released in small limited-edition batches.
Much noise was made about Blackened Whiskey when it launched in 2018 thanks to its "sonically enhanced" maturation process. The patent-pending process developed with engineers at Meyer Sound, named Black Noise, sees the finishing casks exposed to low-hertz sound waves that cause the whiskey to vibrate. The team behind the process says these reverberations lead to increased interaction between cask and spirit, releasing more aroma and flavour compounds from the oak.
Since releasing their original whiskey, the Blackened team have launched other expressions including Rye The Lightning.
Rob Dietrich, Blackened Whiskey's master distiller and blender, said: "I absolutely love cask-strength whiskey. "You are drinking whiskey in its purest form; unfiltered, uncut, and born straight from the barrel with one unapologetic purpose – to be savoured."
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo added: "When creating Blackened, we didn’t want to create just another whiskey. Our goal was to create something unique and refined that would appeal to even the top-notch whiskey experts."
Blackened Whiskey Cask Strength is available now from select retailers with a recommended price of US$69.99 per bottle.
