Irish Distillers' Midleton Distillery will mark its 200th anniversary in 2025. To celebrate the two-century milestone, the distillery will spotlight the stories, people, and whiskeys of Midleton's history.
The Old Midleton Distillery was founded in 1825 and has seen several changes of ownership. In 1975 the Midleton site was expanded and the original production site fell silent. Midleton Distillery is the current home of some of the most well-known Irish whiskey brands, including Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, and Method and Madness.
Celebrations for the distillery's anniversary will include the release of the sixth and final instalment in the Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection, which began in 2020. The 50-year-old expression will be bottled with "the very last drops" of spirit from the original Old Midleton Distillery.

The plans also include a social media campaign through which Irish Distillers will revive pivotal labels in the distillery's history, brought to life with guidance from Carol Quinn, head of archives at Irish Distillers, and a collaboration with genealogy company Ancestry through which Barley Purchase Books from Midleton will be available to search on the site, a way of connecting with and sharing Midleton's local agricultural history.
Quinn commented: “Archives are vital to preserve heritage, inform the present, and shape the future... This year, we are delving into the company archive to bring to life historic labels of Midleton Distillery from 1825 to the present day. Labels aren’t just markers; they provide a window into the distillery’s 200-year history, reflecting the cultural richness and the ambition that drove the distillery forward over two centuries. Throughout 2025, we will digitally guide viewers through the unique stories behind our labels, sharing insights into Midleton’s legacy.”
Nodjame Fouad, CEO, Irish Distillers, added: “As we look to the future, and in the 200th year of Midleton Distillery, we want to pay tribute to our rich distilling tradition by celebrating our home, our history, our people, our brands, and our craft. In the coming year, we will celebrate 200 years of distilling tradition by sharing what it means to us — we look forward to bringing you on a journey over 200 years with us and to celebrating many more milestones and memories in Midleton in the future.”
Midleton Distillery's visitor experience reopened last spring, following flooding in 2023.
