Irish Distillers is venturing into the NFT market with a new single-bottle release in its coveted Midleton Very Rare collection.

Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage is a unique expression comprising spirit from each of the 40 annual Midleton Very Rare releases to date, as well as a cask sample of single pot still whiskey distilled in 1984 under Barry Crockett, then-master distiller and founder of the Midleton Very Rare collection.

The Pinnacle Vintage will go on sale through BlockBar, a global NFT marketplace specialising in fine wines and spirits, as the first Irish whiskey to go on sale exclusively through the website. The whiskey, presented in a one-off cut glass decanter, will be stored at BlockBar's state-of-the-art partner facility in Singapore and comes with a digital certificate of authentication that can be traced by to Midleton Distillery in Ireland.

Kevin O'Gorman, Irish Distillers' master distiller, said: "It is with great honour that we introduce Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage. Crafted from a marriage of rare and storied expressions produced over the past 40 years, and a treasured cask sample of single pot still whiskey distilled under Barry Crockett, Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage is an Irish whiskey that can never again be replicated.

"Often referred to as the pinnacle of Irish whiskey, Midleton Very Rare is hugely popular among international collectors, and it is fitting that this luxury brand would represent the first Irish whiskey sale benefitting from the security of BlockBar."

Priced at US$130,000, Midleton Very Rare The Pinnacle Vintage is available to purchase from blockbar.com from 10am EST on Tuesday 28 February. BlockBar stores and insures the expression, and the owner may redeem, sell or gift the physical bottle at any time.

As part of the sale, a donation will be made to the Forest Genetic Resources Trust, partner of the Midleton Very Rare team at Irish Distillers, which supports the conservation, improvement, and use of native and naturalised tree species in Irish forestry.

Midleton Very Rare 2023 edition

Simultaneously, Irish Distillers will be launching the Midleton Very Rare 2023 expression: a blend of single grain Irish whiskeys and single pot still whiskeys that run the gamut of the pot still style produced at Midleton, from delicate tones to a more traditional, robustly flavoured spirit.

Midleton Very Rare 2023 was bottled in January 2023 at 40% ABV and will be available from 22 February in the USA, Canada, global travel retail, Europe, Australia, and Asia at the RRP of €210 (£200/US$250).
