A new whisky and gin-focused bar, Tipsy Midgie, has opened not far from Edinburgh city centre in the Pleasance area. It's the latest project from Colin, the Whisky Forager.

Just a stone’s throw from Arthurs Seat and the Holyrood Distillery, this 30-seater bar aims to offer a relaxed experience, with rare whiskies and craft gins taking centre stage.

Alongside hundreds of drams, you’ll find a menu of hybrid whisky cocktails (“Whisky Hyballs”). These include “MonstArdbeg” (Ardbeg Wee Beastie with Ultra White Monster and roasted rosemary salt) and the “Rusty Girder” (Kingsbarns Balcomie with Drambuie syrup and Irn Bru sorbet).

Meanwhile, the Gin Perfect Serve menu utilises gins from independent Scottish distilleries, combining them with seasonal garnishes, tonics and mixers. There is also a gin liqueur and bubbles menu for sparkling wine lovers.

As well as drams, whisky cocktails and gin serves, you’ll find “Can and a Dram”, a modern take on the Scottish tradition of 'hauf and hauf' pairing blended whisky and a local craft brewery.

Tipsy Midgie will have a large emphasis on events, which include the following.

Chocolate Pairing Tuesdays: Colin will pair five unusual drams with master chocolate maker Sebastian Kobelt’s creations, with a new theme each week.

Distillery Discovery Thursdays: Each week, a different distillery will be showcased as brand ambassadors, master blenders, tour guides, managers are invited to share their insights.

Flight Club Sundays: Each Sunday, the bar will delve into whisky flights, tasting five single malts blind and comparing cask finishes, old and rare, new and modern, with each theme chosen by Colin. Limited tickets will be available for these events, as many of the whiskies will be single-cask, discontinued or very limited editions.

The bar’s decor and dark-blue colour scheme, described as “filled with perfect Instagram hotspots”, includes neon light, a resin countertop and tables, a whisky mural and backlit glass cabinets.

Tipsy Midgie is the latest project from The Whisky Forager, who previously owned award-winning seafood restaurant, the Kilted Lobster, and whisky and food pairing restaurant, Whisky Forager.

Located at 67 St Leonards Hill, Edinburgh, EH8 9SB, the bar is open Tuesday to Sunday 12 noon to 12am. To book now, visit tipsymidgie.com.
