The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is hoping to bolster its membership in and around Glasgow after opening a new members' room in the city.
The doors to its Bath Street premises opened last week, with a launch party at the venue for members and the media featuring entertainment from local comedians and musicians.
It is the first SMWS members' room to open in Glasgow and follows on from established locations in Edinburgh, including the society's home at The Vaults in Leith. More than 300 society bottlings are on offer from across its 12 flavour profiles, which are described evocatively using terms such as Old & Dignified and Oily & Coastal.
The venue will have rooms available exclusively for members and guests from Tuesday to Sunday and will be available for private hire on Mondays for groups of up to 120 people. Non-members will be able to experience its collection of single malts at weekly non-member days and tastings throughout March.
The decor, while in keeping with other SMWS members' rooms, has been designed to reflect Glasgow's modernity and vibrancy with artwork from local artists hanging on the walls. It includes a range of spaces for different occasions, from relaxed lounge seating and a 'Vaults Snug' to more formal areas and a dedicated whisky tasting room accommodating up to 10 people.
As well as an ever-changing range of SMWS whiskies, there will be a selection of special proprietary whiskies alongside local beers, whisky-inspired cocktails and a bespoke food menu featuring Scottish tapas.
Calum Lawson, venue manager at Bath Street, said: "We're delighted that our brand new members' room is now open in the wonderful city of Glasgow. We have a high number of existing members in the city and the surrounding area and we can't wait to welcome them into the new venue, as well as recruiting new whisky-loving members."
