Supermarket Aldi is to begin selling a 30-year-old blended Scotch whisky for just £49.99 (70cl) - less than a third of the average price for a premium, aged whisky.

The whisky will be available at Aldi stores in Scotland from the second week of December.

A marriage of some of the finest malt whiskies in Speyside, 3,000 bottles of the Glen Orrin 30 Years Old blended whisky will hit shelves across all 44 Scottish Aldi stores.

Aged since 1982, the whisky has a rich and complex nose with deep vanilla oakiness and delicate spice which develops into a smooth mouthfeel with flavours of fruitcake, honey and oak tannin all enveloped in a vanilla sweetness. It has an exceptionally long, rich and elegant finish.
