The Talisker x Parley: Wilder Seas single malt Scotch whisky is the first product collaboration between the distillery and its charity partner. For each bottle made, Talisker is donating £3 – almost £500,000 in total – to Parley to support preservation projects at three sea forests, located off the coasts of Scotland, South Africa, and Chile.
It is sporting Talisker's most environmentally friendly packaging to date: the bottle is made from 100 per cent recycled glass, produced using biofuel; it features a ceramic decoration to reduce added labelling materials; and it is the first whisky from the Skye distillery to be sold without an outer pack, instead carrying a 100 per cent recycled paper neck tag. According to research referenced by Talisker, the product's total carbon emissions from packaging have been reduced by 77 per cent through these initiatives.
In another 'first' for the distillery, Wilder Seas is also the first Talisker whisky to have been finished in French oak XO Cognac casks.
Cyril Gutsch, founder and CEO of Parley said: "Sea forests are as crucial to planetary health as any terrestrial ecosystem, yet their disappearance has largely gone unnoticed. Like forgotten guardians of the sea, sky and land, towering kelps beneath the surface harbour vast marine biodiversity, purify surrounding waters, regulate pH, sequester carbon, release oxygen, protect coastlines from storms and erosion and buffer us all from the worst impacts of climate change.
"Together with Talisker, we’re bridging design, eco-innovation and conservation in a tribute that honours the beauty and fragility of these magical forests and supports the work towards their protection."
Talisker x Parley: Wilder Seas is available to purchase globally through select retailers and at malts.com with a recommended price of £75 per 70cl bottle.
