The expression will be available in key airports across Europe, with a UK roll out expected to start in September at an RRP of £85. Availability in other countries, such as Australia, is expected toward the end of the year.
To celebrate its launch, Talisker Surge will be showcased throughout various airports, with Heathrow hosting its own dedicated sample bar during October and November to give travellers the opportunity to taste the dram before purchasing.
According to a survey from M1ndSet in 2019, 53% of travellers are looking for exclusive products, which is cited as a reason to create the whisky exclusively for airports.
Dafydd Pugh Williams, marketing and innovation director at Diageo Global Travel said: “We are delighted to launch this exceptional new whisky from Talisker as a global travel retail channel exclusive. Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a thriving category and Talisker will continue to fuel the growth of ultra-premium and luxury whisky. Its launch as a channel exclusive underlines our commitment to innovate and invest in the category and offer global travellers something special to gift their loved ones or enjoy themselves. This is something they simply cannot buy anywhere else.”
Bottled at an ABV of 45.8%, Talisker Surge is matured in American Oak ex-Bourbon casks which is said to impart a sweeter flavour, while maintaining the maritime characteristics of the coastal distillery.
The producer has described the liquid as having aromas of banana split, forest berries, American cream soda and butterscotch, with notes of banoffee pie and tinned peaches on the palate. Its finish is described as powerful and long, with notes of hot chilli spice and cracked black pepper.
Ewan Gunn, senior global scotch whisky ambassador at Diageo, also commented: “Talisker Surge is made by the sea, from rugged coastlines and powerful storms, to warming sunbeams and soaring skies, the Isle of Skye powers through our veins and invigorates our souls. The spirit of that unique place is captured within this rich spiced whisky and immediately transports adventurous travellers to this amazing island."
