Bottled at natural colour and non-chill-filtered, the 18 Years Old is described delivering rich dark fruits, nutty milk chocolate and honey-baked oats on the nose; crisp red apple, dried fruits and sweet spice on the palate; and a lingering finish of spiced stewed apple and sherry.
Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu’s distillery manager, said, “Tamdhu has rightfully earned a reputation for producing the very best sherry matured whiskies, so crafting, bottling, and launching our 18 Years Old will go down as a true career highlight…”
Gordon Dundas, global brand ambassador, added, “The combination of both American and European oak casks results in two distinct styles, which we combine to show the amazing character of this fantastic distillery.”
The release of Tamdhu 18 Years Old comes during the brand’s celebration of its 125th anniversary. The distillery was founded in 1897 – "[it is] perhaps the most efficient and designed distillery of its era,” wrote pioneering whisky writer Alfred Barnard in 1898.
The expression, which was pre-released to Tamdhu Club members, is now on sale from the distillery website (RRP £139.99) as well as specialist retailers in markets across Europe, the US, Asia, and Australia.
Tamdhu will soon open its doors to the public for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, hosting tours, tastings, and a luxury ‘Spain to Speyside’ experience. As part of the 125th anniversary celebrations, visitors to the distillery will be among the first to try the 18 Years Old. Tickets are available to purchase from the Spirit of Speyside website.
