The Dalmore has revealed a new series of rare whiskies. The Distillery Select Series has launched with three selections by the Dalmore’s whisky makers, chosen to showcase the effect of cask type on the Dalmore’s signature style. All three whiskies are natural colour and non-chill filtered.
The series is comprised of a 15-year-old sherry cask finish, a 17-year-old Amarone and port cask finish, and a 24-year-old calvados cask finish, all released in highly limited quantities.
The Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 Vintage Sherry Cask Finish (2024 Bottling) was distilled in 2009 and is finished in vintage sherry casks sourced from Spanish wine maker González Byass. The Dalmore’s tasting notes highlight honey, cinnamon, orchard fruits, poached pears, sultanas, and cacao. With 2,736 bottles available, this whisky is bottled at 52.8% ABV.
The second release, the Dalmore Distillery Select 2007 Amarone and Port Cask Finishes (2024 Bottling), has a dual cask finish which balances the Italian and Portuguese influences of Amarone and port. The result is a whisky with notes of summer and forest fruits, raspberry myrtle, vanilla, panna cotta, and violet, according to the distillery. Bottled at 45.8% to “expose the complexity of flavour” created by the duo of cask types, this release is limited to only 918 bottles.
The rarest release in the series, with just 383 bottles available, is the Dalmore Distillery Select 2000 Vintage Calvados Finish (2024 Bottling). Distilled in 2000, the whisky was initially matured in American white oak casks before a finish in vintage calvados casks sourced from the House of Drouin in France. Bottled at 50.3%, the Dalmore shared that the bottling has notes including sugared almonds, apple, red berried, liquorice, wood spice, and balsamic.
Reflecting on the collection, Rod Gillies, brand director, shared: “Each of these limited-edition whiskies was picked out by our whisky makers for the way the casks have complemented or enhanced The Dalmore’s signature house style. These hidden gems from our dunnage warehouses will be available directly from the Dalmore — either from our boutiques, at the distillery, or online for a limited period in the UK.”
The Dalmore Distillery Select 2009 Vintage Sherry Cask Finish (RRP £300), 2007 Amarone and Port Cask Finishes (RRP £1,000), and 2000 Vintage Calvados Finish (RRP £5,000) will be available via the Dalmore website in the UK, and in the Dalmore boutiques and distillery.
The release date is soon to be announced, with an exclusive purchase window for customers registered for the Dalmore’s communications.
