To celebrate its heritage of nearly two centuries, The Glendronach has announced the release of two expressions — a 30-year-old and a 2025 edition 40-year-old.

Bottled at 46.8% ABV, The Glendronach 30 Years Old is the marriage of whisky from three distinct styles of sherry cask, with master blender Rachel Barrie maturing the spirit in Pedro Ximénez, oloroso, and Amontillado sherry casks. The latter marks the first use of this type of cask for the distillery and is said to add a layer of toasted hazelnut and mellow créme caramel to the spicy fruit notes provided by the other two types of sherry cask.

The whisky is presented in a case crafted from stained walnut burl veneer, and engraved with 30 facets said to honour each decade represented in the age statement.

“With the 30-year-old, we have composed a symphony from our most historic sherry cask styles,” says Barrie. “Three decades of maturation have resulted in a sublime and charming single malt, with generous layers of rich and complex character. It is the ultimate expression of our dedication to the art of sherry cask maturation.”

The other expression announced is The Glendronach 40 Years Old 2025 Edition. Composed from a small number of hand-selected casks, the whisky has matured for four decades in Spanish oak oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. According to producers, the 40-year-old has aromas of black cherry and blackberry, with blackcurrant and bramble compote notes on the palate.

Bottled at 43.9% ABV, this release is presented in a box crafted from dark stained rosewood, featuring brass handles and resting on a golden plinth.

“I am honoured to share this exceptionally distinctive single malt,” added Barrie. “At 40 years old, it represents four decades of sherry cask refinement, polished by time to become the ultimate expression of The Glendronach. It is a privilege to be the custodian of such remarkable casks.”

Last month the Highland distillery released a musical collaboration with Emmy-nominated composer Rob Lewis. The song, “Valley of the Brambles” was designed to complement the brand’s 12-year-old.

Both releases are available now, with the RRP of the 30-year-old at £1,000, and the RRP of the older 40-year-old at £5,000.
