Part of the Original Stories range, The Glenlivet 12 Years Old Illicit Still draws inspiration from founder George Smith, who began illegally distilling whisky in the 1800s and helped to earn the brand its reputation for innovation, and occasional wildness.
The design for the bottle is inspired by the oldest bottle in the brand's archives and features copper highlights that represent the hand-crafted stills used for illicit whisky distillation back in the 1800s. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at a slightly-above-average 48% ABV, inspired by the production methods of the time.
A new whisky will be released each year as part of the limited-edition series, with each expression offering a different tasting experience and specially designed packaging to help bring part of The Glenlivet's past to life.
Ian Peart, Pernod Ricard UK commercial director, said: "The Glenlivet has always been about moving things forward and setting new standards, and we're confident the launch of The Glenlivet 12 Years Old Illicit Still limited edition will inspire whisky enthusiasts with its modern interpretation of George Smith's visionary spirit."
He added: "With research showing that online and direct delivery to recipients will be important for alcohol gifting this Christmas, The Glenlivet 12 Years Old Illicit Still is perfectly primed to tap into this consumer trend."
