The younger of the two – the 21-year-old – is triple finished in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, troncais oak cognac and vintage colheita port casks. The producer has described the dram as having notes of caramelised pears, juicy sultanas, and warming ginger, with a long and rich spice finish.
The 25-year-old single malt meanwhile is finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which provides the kick, as well as troncais oak cognac casks. Its taste is described as rich and intense, with notes of sweet fig and blood orang - as well as complimenting ginger – concluding with a long and spiced finish.
A new look bottle design is also accompanying the relaunch, said to be an evolution of the previous signature look. There are new colours at play, with a darker and richer twist combined with the premium copper finish.
Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Expert, said on the relaunch: “This has been an exciting opportunity to elevate two iconic whiskies – our 21 and 25 Year Old Originals – developing an end result full of layers of flavour and richness. The Sample Room Collection from The Glenlivet is breaking new ground in whisky, setting new standards in taste and quality through craftsmanship and refined cask finishes.”
