The Macallan launches the Colour Collection

The Macallan has launched the Colour Collection, a range of highly aged whiskies that is designed to celebrate the brand's commitment to natural colouring.

The travel retail-exclusive range† comprises five age-statement single malts from the Speyside distillery, all of which have been sherry cask matured (primarily in American oak, with some European oak).

The bottles in the collection sport a new stripped-back design, which shows off the varied colours of the individual age statements and is said to have been inspired by the brand's home, the Macallan Estate.

It also marks the return to travel retail of age-statement whiskies from The Macallan, which have appeared less frequently since the launch of its first non-age-statement collection into travel retail in 2009.

Jeremy Speirs, regional managing director of Edrington Global Travel Retail, said: “Following many years of development, we are delighted to introduce The Macallan Colour Collection exclusively to global travel. In our relenting pursuit of uncompromised excellence, refining and redeveloping our offering to ensure it remains relevant to our shoppers, we are confident that we have achieved an extraordinary selection of whiskies with The Macallan Colour Collection.

“The range is a prism through which travellers can immerse themselves in the craftsmanship of The Macallan, exploring the characteristics which make our single malt whiskies so unique, while underpinning our renowned quality and character.”

Kirsteen Campbell, master whisky maker at The Macallan, said: “The Macallan Colour Collection is a visual celebration of our commitment to natural colour and sherry seasoning, with each of the five distinctive whiskies taking travellers through a compelling sensory journey of the remarkable spectrum of natural hues derived from maturation in The Macallan’s sherry seasoned oak casks. It is these exceptional oak casks which are the single greatest contributor to the quality, flavours and distinctive aromas at the heart of our single malts.

“Deepening in colour with age, each expression tells its own story and is a prism through which consumers can explore the unique characteristics which underpin the exceptional craftsmanship, renowned quality and rich character of our single malt whisky.”

The Macallan Colour Collection – comprising 12, 15, 18, 21, and 30-year-old expressions – will be available in The Macallan Global Boutiques in key airports and in select duty-free locations worldwide from September 2023. The recommended prices for each expression are:

  • The Macallan Colour Collection 12 Years Old – £70/US$80/€80
  • The Macallan Colour Collection 15 Years Old – £145/US$165/€165
  • The Macallan Colour Collection 18 Years Old – £305/US$350/€350

To celebrate the launch of the Colour Collection, The Macallan has partnered with US graphic designer David Carson for a series of immersive art exhibitions inspired by the vineyards of Jerez, Spain. The exhibitions will take place in London, Shanghai, Dubai, Singapore, and Los Angeles.
