The whisky has been created by The Macallan’s master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell and is said to have produced the single malt with the objective of reflecting the endurance of the Bond character.
Bottled at 43.7%, the producer has described the expression as having aromas of lemon and lime, with notes of orange zest and fizzy sherbet on the palate and a sweet, long finish.
Bond’s whisky of choice in recent films has been The Macallan, with a Fine & Rare 1962 featuring in the 2012 hit Skyfall as a nod to the 50th anniversary. The influence that the character and the film franchise as a whole has had on The Macallan cannot be understated, and the release is a celebration of such a sustained respect between the two.
Jaume Ferras, global creative director for The Macallan, said: “This October, James Bond will celebrate its 60th anniversary, making it the longest running and one of the most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, comprising 25 films over six decades and six lead actors over time. The Macallan is James Bond’s whisky of choice and as two renowned global brands, we share many synergies, most notably as modern innovators linked by our Scottish heritage.”
As well as the release of this expression, The Macallan has also created a series of immersive experiences, including a unique exhibition – The Macallan in Cinema. Viewers will be taken through The Macallan’s history in film through the James Bond films, with a selection of films to be screened at The Macallan Estate.
The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release is available from The Macallan online, estate and travel retail boutiques, at an RRSP of £600. More information can be found on their official website.
