The final expression in the Rosebank Legacy Series has been revealed. The Rosebank 32 Years Old follows its 30- and 31-year-old predecessors created from casks saved from before the distillery’s closure more than 30 years ago.
To mark the series’ conclusion and celebrate the revival of the iconic distillery, Rosebank has collaborated with composer Des Oliver. Inspired by the tasting notes of the 32-year-old, Oliver has composed ‘Rosebank Reawakening’, a piece performed by contemporary orchestra Chineke!
In order to translate the whisky into music, Oliver visited Rosebank blender Emma Oakes and Malcolm Rennie, distillery manager, at Rosebank earlier this year, where he had an early tasting of the 32-year-old whisky.
Oliver commented: “My piece was conceived as a journey inspired by the unique flavours of the Rosebank 32 Years Old. I was drawn to the idea of translating the nuances of the spirit into a sonic landscape, choosing to write it in a way that reflected the multifaceted nature of this whisky.”
Tasting notes supplied by Rosebank highlight flavours of tropical fruits, marzipan, coffee, lemon, and honeyed porridge in the 32-year-old release.
Rennie shared: “I am extremely proud to announce the arrival of Rosebank 32 Years Old, it is an exceptional dram, which perfectly exemplifies the qualities that earned Rosebank reverence as the “King of the Lowlands”. It not only marks the final expression in our first legacy series, but also symbolises a new era for Rosebank, as we prepare to open the doors of our revived distillery.
“Working with Des and Chineke! has been fascinating, and to see them interpret their experience of this whisky and create such stunning piece of inspired music fills me with so much pride. Listening to it whilst savouring a dram completely elevates the tasting notes, making for a magical experience.”
The return of Rosebank Distillery began in 2019, when Ian Macleod Distillers secured planning permission to revive it. The distillery will open to the public for the first time in its new guise in June 2024. Bookings are open now for the new visitor experiences, at which guests can see behind the scenes of the whisky making process and nose the distillery’s new make.
Rosebank 32 Years Old (47% ABV, RRP £2,100) is available to purchase via the Rosebank website, where you can also listen to ‘Rosebank Reawakening’ by Des Oliver and Chineke! Orchestra.
